Chukku Kappi Recipe – Dry Ginger Coffee Recipe

Dry Ginger Coffee /Chukku Kaapi is popular South Indian specialty coffee.

Chukku kapi is always my favorite, particularly in winter and on rainy days, the healthiest coffee I would say…This wonder root has lots of health benefits and used as a good remedy for indigestion, nasal congestions, cold, sore throat, cough, fever etc…


In the ancient science of Ayurveda, Dry Ginger /Chukku plays an major role because of its goodness and digestive properties..To know more benefits about Chukku /Dry ginger read here.. The best method to drink is by using holy basil (known as ‘Tulsi’ in India) with  palm sugar, (pananchakkara or karuppatti)  if you cannot get either use jaggery..Warm yourself with this easy-to-do drink on a cold day and Enjoy!!

Chukku Kappi Recipe | Dry Ginger Coffee Recipe

Ingredients :

Dried Ginger Powder /Chukku Podi : 1 tsp

Coffee Powder : 1 tsp
Black Pepper Corn : 1/2 tsp (freshly grounded)
Dried Tulsi /Dried Holy Basil : 1/2 tsp or  fresh basil/ tulsi leaves : 5-8
Pananchakkara or Karuppatti / Jaggery powder : 1 tbsp
Water : 2 cups

How to make Chukku Kappi – Dry Ginger Coffee : 

1. Mix all the ingredients and boil for couple of minutes.
2. Strain it. Serve hot.

    I’ve tried all sorts of coughing syrups, believe me, but none of them helps. Even though Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa http://www.geocities.jp/ninjiom_hong_kong/index_e.htm does not eliminates the cough I like to stick to this chinese syrup I’ve been taking since I was a kid: Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa. My grandfather is chinese, so I guess my mom got the advice from him. I was really surprised when I found that chinese market selling it here in Belgium. It does have a refreshing, soothing, sweetening effect…as long as it lasts…then back to coughing mode.
